Dioscorea tokoro has XY male and XX female sex determination system. Two genes, BLH9 and HSP90, located on the Y-region are hypothesized to be responsible for the generation of male flowers (Top). Lack of the two genes generates female flowers (Bottom). Kudoh et al. 2026
