whatabout scientist social networks?

Interesting article for kickstarting the social media presence, but I feel it should have mentioned the social networks geared specifically to scientists.... researchgate et al.

Thanks for bringing up this point. Given the huge array of available online tools, we decided early on to focus only on the most popular social media tools (e.g. those with the largest and most diverse user base). We were quite restricted in terms of article length.

I haven't personally found the "scientist social networks" to be useful for my purposes (I try to use only a limited number of social media tools, and I focus on those such as Twitter where I can connect with the greatest number of people - and also where my account is not hidden behind a login screen). We would love to hear other peoples' experiences with services such as ResearchGate, etc. Please do post a comment telling us how and why you might use these type of focused social networks.
