HOC1 mutation discovered by OPENPichia group too

In a new manuscript posted on BioRxiv, the OPENPichia group led by Nico Callewaert and Katrien Claes at Ghent University report discovery of the same HOC1 mutation by a different route. They show that the thick cell wall of strains with an intact HOC1 gene is the reason that they're difficult to transform with DNA. They have engineered the hoc1 mutation into the OPENPichia platform strain.
