ISWI actively regulates piRNA gene expression in the germ line
Maintaining proper piRNA expression ensures the continued fertility of an organism, yet how these highly clustered genes are coordinately expressed in the C. elegans germ line remains unclear. Shown here is expression of the chromatin remodeler ISWI/ISW-1 (green) and an essential piRNA biogenesis factor PRDE-1 (magenta) which marks the piRNA locus. By acutely disrupting ISW-1 using a degron tag, we demonstrate that ISW-1 actively maintains a chromatin environment that permits PRDE-1 association. See Paniagua et al. Download July’s cover page.
