Late Neolithic Portuguese human remains studied using ancient genomics.
Archaeological remains of individual MC337 excavated from the site of Hipogeu de Monte Canelas I, Portugal, and analysed by archaeologist Rui Parreira and anthropologist Ana Maria Silva. This was one of the 14 Neolithic and Bronze Age samples sequenced by Martiniano et al. The authors show that in contrast with other parts of Europe where evidence for mass migration was observed after the Neolithic era, only subtle genetic changes can be observed between the Portuguese Neolithic and Bronze Age samples, possibly resulting from small-scale migration.
