Chromosome segregation is one of the cornerstones of meiosis. Shown here is a Mongolian gerbil spermatocyte at anaphase I. The X (top) and Y (bottom) chromosomes (labeled in red) are segregating to opposite cell poles while they remain connected by a proteinaceous bridge (see de la Fuente et al., e198).
