There are widespread concerns in many, if not all, countries and communities about the health consequences of unhealthy diets, inadequate physical activity and other factors that contribute to non-communicable diseases, bringing about the so-called epidemiological transition. Researchers are making strenuous efforts to understand the important determinants of obesity and other non-communicable diseases, including biological and societal factors, in seeking solutions to this widespread health problem.
In a Perspective, Deirdre Harrington and Michelle O'Reilly discuss a research paper by Kirsten Corder and colleagues included in PLOS Medicine's Special Issue on Obesity, reporting an evaluation of the school-based GoActive intervention seeking to promote physical activity among adolescents.
