Appearance of Immature Thymus-Derived T Cells in Lymph Nodes of T. cruzi-Infected Mice

The bar graph at the upper left shows the significant increase in the absolute numbers of CD4+CD8+ lymphocytes seen in subcutaneous lymph nodes of acutely infected mice. The flow cytometry dot plots to the right show the enhancement of these CD4+CD8+ cells in the infected animal and compared to the age-matched control. These immature double-positive T cells express higher amounts of the fibronectin receptor VLA-4, as ascertained by the cytofluorometric detection of the CD49d integrin subunit (bottom graph).
