LGP2 regulates CD95 expression on the surface of specific CD8 T cells

In a very recent publication Suthar et al, 2012 (1) descibed that the molecule LGP2 is activated during immune response to viruses. This molecule regulates the expression of CD95 on the surface of specific CD8 T cells. The LGP2 KO mice can not down regulate the expression of CD95 and the specific CD8 T cells have a proapoptoctic phenotype. These mice are very susceptible to viral infection confirming the that the down-regulation of CD95 during immune responses to viruses is a key step to develop a protective immune response.
