It is startling to see that people with these diseases cannot expect relief anytime soon, and that research just goes on year after year. Now we have to factor in microbiome, about which much is still unknown. This is not encouraging. What is more discouraging is that this paper brought in Andrew Wakefield and anti-vaccine movements, without understanding that research in that field is not only lacking but prevented. Until we know what the cause is for autism, we should not take anything off the table. We can study IBD for 80 years without result, but autism research is hobbled and denigrated.
It is good to see that this author, though, has shown what IBD areas still need investigating. Humans are very handicapped when it comes to unraveling the mysteries of disease. A little humility is required for the honest researcher.
