Using data from 22 prospective cohort studies, involving more than 300, 000 adults and almost 20 years of follow-up, Erfan Nmn Tasdighi and colleagues investigate the relationships among smoking burden, intensity, and cessation duration across multiple cardiovascular outcomes. The authors find that even light intensity smoking substantially increases cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality risks, highlighting the need to accelerate smoking cessation interventions at younger ages.
