Impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on people and societies have been nothing short of disastrous, with serious and protracted consequences evident all around the world. Whilst strenuous efforts have been made to combat and mitigate the threats of SARS-CoV-2 infections for health and other domains of human wellbeing, the emergence of new virus variants has led to uncertainty about the potential risks of returning to normal patterns of social interactions, education and work, prolonging disruption and potentially exacerbating adverse effects. In a Perspective, Maya Peterson, Joshua Schwab and Diane Havlir discuss priorities for vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in the United States and beyond.
