During the COVID-19 pandemic, great efforts have been made to identify and deploy methods to interrupt pathogen transmission and prevent infection. Social distancing was widely used in a substantial number of countries early in the pandemic, and mask wearing was an additional method mandated in many settings to prevent airborne disease transmission. However, disruptions to essential social functions such as health-care encounters were, along with uncertainties about the effectiveness of different approaches, recognized as limitations. In a Research Article, Nicolas Banholzer and co-workers investigate the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in two secondary schools in Switzerland in the presence and absence of mask wearing and air cleaners.
