For each case, all model parameters were re-estimated (NONE fixed on the x-axis), or the indicated model parameters were fixed to the values estimated from the full course of the infection data set and the remaining parameters estimated (see Table 1). The dashed line represents the RMSE calculated from the best model fit using the full course of infection (see S1 Data for RMSE values).
