Robust point-process Granger causality analysis in presence of exogenous temporal modulations and trial-by-trial variability in spike trains

Fig 6

Sensitivity of G-ETM.

The four panels show the results of the application of G-ETM to a simple network consisting of two neurons with a directed functional connection from neuron 1 to neuron 2 when the strength of the functional connection and number of available trials were parametrically changed. (A) Examples of spike trains generated in the case of 40 trials and a strength of 1 (gray box) and 60 trials and a strength of 1.5 (green box). (B, C) Percentage of runs in which G-ETM correctly detected the functional connection from neuron 1 to neuron 2 (panel B) or erroneously reported a false positive (panel C) as a function of the strength of the functional connection and number of trials. The gray and green highlighted conditions correspond to the two example data sets shown in Panel A. (D) Percentage of trials in which the firing rate of neuron 1 in the interval [.8, 1.2]s was larger than in the interval [1.8, 2.2]s.
