Recurrently connected and localized neuronal communities initiate coordinated spontaneous activity in neuronal networks
Fig 2
Simulated spontaneous spiking activity in the neuronal network model.
(A) Raster plot of spiking activity displaying networks bursts (NBs) comparable to the experimental ones (c.f. Fig 1A). (B) Close-up on two subsequent NBs showing clear spatiotemporal propagations. (C) Plots of the CATs for the two NBs shown in B. (D) Cross-correlation matrix of NBs showing the absence of any temporal correlation among NBs, as in the experimental data (c.f. Fig 1E). (E) The reordered cross-correlation matrix of simulated NBs shows similar features to the one computed for the experimental data (c.f. Fig 1F). (F) Clustered CATs share common ignition sites (circles) and propagating paths through the network. (G) The activity parameters, mean firing rate (MFR), mean bursting rate (MBR), mean firing intra-burst (MFIB) and mean burst duration (MBD) are in accordance with the experimental data (n = 15 experimental recordings, n = 20 simulations, p-values 0.27, 0.97, 0.95, and 0.35, respectively).
