In the Results section
• The second sentence of the last paragraph of sub-title "Spike Rates" should read 'low levels of input' instead of 'no input'.
• The third sentence under sub-title "Coding efficiency" should read ‘high mean’ instead of 'low mean'.
• The caption for bottom panel for Figure 2 (D,E,F) in the sentence “The information rates of spike trains generated by excitatory conductances alone.” 'information rates' should read 'firing rates'.
In the discussion section
In the final paragraph the first sentence “We have made a basic general model that reveals that current balanced excitation and inhibition can increase coding efficiency, improving the statistics of spike trains by increasing signal entropy and reducing noise entropy.” should read “We have made a basic general model that reveals that current balanced excitation and inhibition can increase coding efficiency, improving the statistics of spike trains by improving the statistics of spike trains by decreasing signal and noise entropy” .
