Pitfalls of barcodes to study SARSCoV- 2 variation and phylodynamics

We would like to post here a link to our comments on the Zhao's et al. article: Pitfalls of barcodes in the study of worldwide SARSCoV-2 variation and phylodynamics.

See the PubMed link here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.n...

In a few words:
- The performance of the Zhao's et al. algorithm can be improved substantially by making a small modification that avoid phylogeny redundancy in variant selection.
- Barcodes selected on a worldwide database (genomes collected from the beginning of the pandemic) can only capture old variation, but not new variants emerging continuously everywhere locally.
