Posted on behalf of Fred Howell.
We've been developing a system at http://a.nnotate.com for discussing and annotating papers online - e.g. some comments and tags on the PDF version of your article:- http://a.nnotate.com/php/... or the index of notes at:- http://a.nnotate.com/php/...
[it's hard but not completely impossible to do something useful with the PDF version within the browser - highlight text to write new notes]
It works on snapshots of the html version too ...
http://a.nnotate.com/docs...
http://a.nnotate.com/php/...
Getting rid of the copyright restrictions is very useful - one could publish the links to copies of the articles above without worrying about getting sued by the publisher - but we've found that people tend to use the system for sharing private notes on articles within their lab rather than making everything public.
If you have any comments/suggestions on our annotation system, I'd be very interested in hearing them,
Regards,
Fred Howell
