Considering selamectin for Schistosoma mansion treatment?

Dear authors,

I have read with attention your work and found that you focused your attention on the avermectin doramectin. Another avermectin, selamectin, was also found on your screen but it was discarded because it was believed to be topically administered. To be noted that selamectin is also orally available.

Coincidentally, we just published in PLOS NTD an analysis of the suitability of the avermectins for Buruli ulcer treatment. See here:

http://journals.plos.org/...

and found that selamectin is the avermectin with the best pharmacokinetic and toxicity profile among all the avermectins. However, it is only used for veterinary medicine.

We are currently exploring its use for Buruli ulcer and for tuberculosis but I believe selamectin is a drug worth exploring for other indications as well.

Best regards,

Santiago Ramon-Garcia
