Abbreviations: NS–Never stunted, S2N5—Stunted at 2 years and caught up by 5 years, S5N9—Stunted at 2 and 5 years and caught up by 9 years, AS–Always stunted. Only AS (Always Stunted) children exhibited reduced subcortical brain volumes specifically in the right caudate nucleus, left caudate nucleus, right pallidum and right thalamus when compared to NS (Never Stunted) children.
