Generation and detection of C3M fragments.

C3M is generated by degradation of collagen type III by the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9, which produces a 10 amino acid neo-epitope (KNGETGPQGP). The ELISA antibody detects this neo-epitope and can thereby detect fragments of down to 10 amino acids. ELISA: enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
