BAL: bronchoalveolar lavage; PCR: polymerase chain reaction. *Surveillance bronchoscopies were defined as procedures performed at pre-determined time-points during the usual follow-up of patients after lung transplantation; clinically-indicated bronchoscopies were defined as procedures done when there was a suspicion of graft rejection or lung infection. **The five PCR-positive patients were followed up for a median duration of 21 months after the index bronchoscopy (range: 20 to 23 months).
