The comfort in touch: Immediate and lasting effects of handholding on emotional pain

Relationship satisfaction moderates the effect of handholding on feelings of comfort.

While relationship satisfaction did not enhance comfort during the squeeze-ball conditions, it did enhance comfort during handholding such that those with high relationship satisfaction had greater comfort during handholding as compared to those with low relationship satisfaction.
