I wonder if an identical experimental set-up with human children, which one could do with an identical approach as it applies to the dogs (and other animals) -- which I don't think is possible by the way --, could lead to the same result?
I can say for me personally that I would certainly also not show myself particularly gratefully, if someone, who would send me a cookie by keystroke, to cause gratitude towards him. I believe that we can only ever find out about another species what we think is possible, and if the experimental design already establishes that a dog is probably always about food, there is already a certain limitation in terms of the result, I think.
