Question about data collection and calculating probability of violence

Posted by agroskreutz on 20 May 2019 at 12:50 GMT

It seems that the study is missing a key variable; number of partners. A possible difference with the lifetime prevalence of IPVAW is the number of partners that each participant in the study had. A person that had more partners has a higher probability of one of them being violent, all else being the same. I didn't see this addressed in the paper and could be a possible contributing factor in the difference.

Unfortunately, the FRA survey does not ask about the number of partners and it is impossible to test its effect on the IPVAW levels in Sweden or Spain. Beyond that, a quick note: the aim of the study was to assess whether the differences between Sweden and Spain are due to a measurement bias, and the data seems to reject that scenario. It is important to ensure the comparability of the measures used to assess the levels of IPVAW before evaluating the effect that other variables may have.
