LBAM recently has established itself in California,

While it could be argued that the names New Zealand and Hawaii represent more or less discrete geographies, California is much less so. But in all three cases, the idiom LBAM "established itself" in a politically-circumscribed place attributes kinds of collective purpose and geographical awareness to insects that cannot be demonstrated. The moths are doing what they always do, wherever they are. As far as LBAM are concerned, California, New Zealand and Hawaii apparently lack meaningful distinguishing characteristics.
