The information in the "Taphrinomycotina" section of the Results was incomplete as published, and three references were missing. The section should read:

Taphrinomycotina

This ascomycete subphylum is varied in many of its morphological and biochemical characters, including the production of major sterols. Although Pneumocystis carinii and related species synthesize a variety of ∆7 and ∆8 24-alkylsterols, the cholesterol in their membranes is scavenged from the mammalian hosts [37]. A broad sampling of species of Taphrina and Protomyces have 24-methyl-cholesta-5,22-dienol (brassicasterol) as their primary sterol [38]. Schizosaccharomyces pombe and S. octosporus produce ergosterol [39] (Figure 2; Table S1).
