The current PLOS ONE article reports results gathered as part of protocol launched in Burkina Faso designed to grasp the social and economic consequences generated by the tuberculosis care and control.
This article was focused on the assessment of direct costs in relation to tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and treatment. A related paper published in the Bulletin of the World Health Organization in April 2013, and which is cited as reference 10, is focused on the same group of patients and data but reports a viewpoint on inefficient patient management and full socio-economic burden associated with the so-called "free" TB strategy.
