closeForaging area overlap

Please could you explain how you calculated expected overlap?
(Twenty-one dyads in 2009 (47%) and 74 dyads in 2010 (43%) exhibited greater foraging area overlap than expected)
Many thanks.

We evaluated overlap using the utilization distribution overlap index (UDOI) described by Fieberg and Kochanny (2005; page 1348). The UDOI measures the joint distribution of the utilization distributions of 2 animals under the assumption that space is used independently of one another.
