This research was conducted over the period 2008-2016/7. I started noticing a spate of suicides being reported in the media as a result of the 2008 market crash. These were mostly in Europe and the US - Germany, UK, US. Initially I started compiling a manual but machine readable dataset of finance related suicides and suicide-homicides, but as the study grew in scope and complexity we moved over to CDC and NVDRS data, and that opened up the development of new constructs and models.
Among other literature the "Stuckler D, Basu S, Suhrcke M, Coutts A, McKee M (2009) The public health effect of economic crises and alternative policy responses in Europe. Lancet 374:315–323" paper was very helpful in extending the existing framework of analysis.
