For the first 7 days following cessation of tamoxifen, the animals were monitored daily and the frequency of monitoring was increased to twice daily after 7 days. Animals were monitored for signs of pain/distress, respiratory rate, loss of weight greater than 10%, impaired mobility, overall posture and appearance. Buprenorphine (0.05-0.1mg/kg) was injected subcutaneously every 12 hours for analgesia if needed. Animals in pain or respiratory distress or weight loss greater than 10%, unable to groom or with hunched posture or immobility were euthanized with CO2 inhalation followed by physical method.
