Update on this article: Site Y has been found

Posted by walkerro on 07 Jun 2016 at 20:08 GMT

Happy to report that the isolated Yanomamo (Moxihatetea, reported in the paper as Site Y) are alive and well as of May 12, 2016. We used real time fire detection from satellites to find them and then tasked a DigitalGlobe satellite ($2k) to get high resolution images of their village and gardens. Their previous village was abandoned in late 2014 and FUNAI and others were afraid something bad had happened since the area is crawling with gold miners. But fortunately they are clearing large gardens and the number of sections in the shabono has increased from 16 to 17!
