Better protection for infant health needed in Lao PDR

Posted by ibfanpg on 23 Mar 2012 at 08:22 GMT

The findings of the survey by Barennes et all underscore the need for Lao PDR to implement a strong law to curb the marketing excesses of baby food companies. Lao PDR used to have a strong law which implement the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes. A strong industry lobby caused that law to be revoked to be replaced by a much weaker measure which does little to protect breastfeeding. Children in Lao PDR are paying the price.
