This research re-confirms the cardioprotective benefits of CR particularly under the setting of MI. More relevant model to study to mimic clinical condition is to use pathological mouse models such as ob/ob mice, db/db mice, atheroslerotic models, hypertensive models etc. Clinically, those who undergo cardiac surgery to treat MI would have been exposed chronically to either high BP, high Chol, diabetes, or to obesity. Would a short term CR to these patients prior to by-pass surgery be beneficial for their recovery? this would be a great question to explore.
