“In the article by Lutz and colleagues they examine the CSF metabolome for potential biomarkers of MS disease. The authors conclude that the metabolic profiles suggest a close link between MS plaque activity and organic-acid metabolism. In addition, BHIB was identified as a metabolite of interest for future studies.
The manuscript is well written. In particular the discussion including scientific explanations for the experimental findings is thoughtful.
A major strength of the study is the careful delineation of the patient populations and the through statistical analysis of the experimental data.
The organization of the manuscript that includes a number of supplemental figures makes it difficult to read and follow. Since the manuscript is not overly long, the manuscript would flow better if the supplemental data were combined with the experimental data in one complete document.”
