Reviewer 2's Review (Joan Gil)

“This is an interesting report describing the use of a mouse model of chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small B cell lymphoma to analyze the antitumor activity of triterpenoids. This model is a transgenic mouse overexpressing both TRAF and Bcl-2 and it has been described previously. This is the first report analyzing in this model the effects of a drug that induces apoptosis of CLL cells. The experimental data support that triterpenoids induce apoptosis of B cells in these transgenic mice. This is an interesting finding as it demonstrates that this mouse model could be used in the future to analyze the effects of other potential drugs for CLL treatment.

The manuscript is clearly written but I suggest a better description of Fig. 6 to improve the understanding by non-specialists. Furthermore, I suggest an additional figure 6b showing the average of the effects on B cell populations from the mice that completed the treatment for each drug.

Finally, I think that it would be better to keep the name "CLL cells" for the human CLL cells, and to use alternative names for the leukemic cells from the mouse models.”
