What about the big picture?

Posted by Frederic-Michon on 06 Jan 2014 at 12:02 GMT

Earlier were published 3 articles related to miR-720 in the dental contexts (Michon et al., 2010; Sehic et al., 2011; Juuri et al., 2012).
It is quite surprising that none of these studies were mentioned in this article (only 24 articles were published about tooth and miRNA). It would have been interesting to get a comment about the epithelial role of this miRNA vs. its mesenchymal role.

Dear Michon,
Thank you for your comment. Our search in PubMed matched only 16 papers, among which only Sehic`s paper was related to the dental field. The other two papers that you mentioned (Michon et al, and Juuri et al) were not matched.
In the paper of Sehic et al., they focused on miR-214, and they just simply mentioned that miR-720 levels increased after knock-down of miR-214, that is, they just mentioned the effect of miR-214 on miR-720 levels, but did not investigate the role or expression of miR-720 on tooth morphogenesis.
Therefore, we opted to not include their paper in the references.
