Reviewer 1's Review

“The work from Zhou et al describes the identification of genetic traits that are selected in flies adapted to low oxygen environment. The authors mix 27 isogenic lines shown to have different recovery times following acute anoxia and by growing them in low oxygen regimes over many generations they create new lines of flies (AF) that are more resistant to oxygen limitation, have increased oxygen consumption in hypoxic conditions and reduced body size compared to those raised in normoxia (NF).

The experimental procedure is overall justified and the assessment of the results is generally correct.”
