Any zebrafish paper NOT citing Robu et al on the toxicity of morpholinos and non-specific p53 dependent apoptosis induced should NOT be published. It is a shame that PLOS ONE editorial board and reviewers overlook this essential control, and are unaware of the pitfalls of MO technology. Especially worrying since Robu et al is a PLOS paper :PLoS Genet. 2007 May 25;3(5):e78. The authors should make themselves aware of this study, do the proper controls (co-inject p53 MO) and assess whether they still believe their phenotypes.
