Reviewer #1's Review

“The paper by Hung et al aims at determining the effect of short term exposure of mesenchymal stem cells to hypoxia, focusing particularly on changes in their survival, proliferation, differentiation, migration to chemokines SDF-1 and Fraktalkine and engraftment ability. This study is novel, very timely and addresses important questions, particularly with regard to migration and engraftment. At present ways of improving migration and engraftment of MSC are a high priority if MSC are to be used successfully in the clinic. Therefore this study is of interest to both stem cell biologists and clinicians with an interest in stem cell research. The study is informative, overall well written with appropriate reference to previous literature in the field.”
