KETOTOFEN

If this work was to be translated to a clinical trial, would ketotifen be speculated to have the same role?

The selectivity of mast cell stabilisers for particular mast cell populations (CTMC, MMC or both) appears to differ across species. However, pre-clinically ketotifen is thought to display selectivity for CTMC. Clinically, ketotifen has been demonstrated to decrease visceral hypersensitivity in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (Gut. 2010 Sep;59(9):1213-21. doi: 10.1136/gut.2010.213108). However, as in our pre-clinical study, whether this occurs solely due to mast cell stabilisation warrants further investigation.
