Q: “A very minor issue-I am curious about the data on the survival rate. From time to time, there are a handful of infertile zebrafish eggs in a clutch. In all of the experiments in this paper, were infertile eggs excluded, if any?”
A: My reply was delayed as I was waiting for PLoS instructions regarding how to reply to questions posed in ratings. PLoS just informed me that “We therefore haven't set things up to allow Rating Comments to be replied to, unlike annotations and discussion comments.” (managing editor - Chris Surridge). So I have to turn to Discussion.
“In all cell injection experiments, control groups of non-injected zebrafish embryos cultured under the same condition (32ºC) were used to eliminate the embryo quality differences between different embryo batches. The survival rate was scaled accordingly.”
