structural comparisons?

Posted by derek_japan on 22 Mar 2007 at 06:02 GMT

I am not sure about the comparison with maxGFP as structurally different and DsRed as structurally similar to EGFP. I can't see the 3D structure of maxGFP, has it been solved? Although the basic 3D structure of DsRed may be similar to GFP, there are local differences between the two (as shown by the EGFP antibody not detecting DsRed in Fig. 2B). I wonder if maxGFP also has such a level of similarity (local sequence differences but similar folded 3D structure)?

In Mol. Biol. Evol. 21(5):841-850. 2004

Copepoda GFPs represent the most remote clade of fluorescent GFP-like proteins

I don't know whether its crystal structure has been resolved?
