correction on CLCA2 in colon

Posted by relble2 on 24 May 2013 at 23:56 GMT

It should be noted that in the paper by Bustin and Dorudi showing downregulation of two CLCA genes in colon cancer, CLCA4 was misidentified as CLCA2. Thus, CLCA1 and 4 are downregulated, in agreement with the present paper. CLCA2 expression is very low in the lower gut to begin with.

It should also be noted that mClca1 and mClca2 are NOT the orthologs of human CLCA1 and 2. Yes, the nomenclature is clumsy, but at the time we discovered these genes, we had no idea how many genes per species there would turn out to be or how they were related. Thus, CLCA genes were originally named chronologically. Currently, newly discovered genes are based on orthology to the human gene set.
