Relatedness of compared populations?

How distant should the population be to for this approach to still be applicable? (i.e. populations within the same species, subspecies, sister species?)

This method was originally developed for two human populations separated for about 80K years. However, I think it can be applied to any of the groups you have listed, as long as the genome scan can incorporate enough shared polymorphic sites.
