More Evidence for a Hemispheric Specialization Dichotomy

The authors have made a valuable contribution by using the same experimental paradigm to add further evidence, in the relatively unexplored auditory modality, for the widespread existence of 2 apparently rather basic hemispheric specializations in vertebrates. To my knowledge this is the first demonstration of a left hemisphere specialization for processing conspecific vocalizations in dogs. Also novel was the demonstration of a presumably emotion-related specialization of the right hemisphere to sounds of inanimate objects.
