Supports my hypothesis

In 1982 I hypothesised that the inconsistent relationship between above average adiposity in humans and metabolic abnormalities particularly between various population groups could be explained by transgenerational “genetic or hereditary”( i.e. epigenetic) changes. I also suggested that this process reflected an adaptive response to the modern obesogenic nutritional environment [1].

I also believe that I was the first to suggest an inverse relationship between weight in infancy due to epigenetic influences and the risk of subsequent metabolic disorders.

This study by Alice Tait and colleagues demonstrating that second and third generation rat offspring exposed to an obesogenic nutritional environment displayed reduced body fat to lean mass and reduced appetite suggesting a reduction in chronic disease risk across generations is consistent with this hypothesis.
