propose that the neo-functionalization of duplicated Vtg genes was a key event in the evolution and success of the teleosts in the oceanic environment.

... suggesting that the apparition of a new function in a gene duplicate (neofunctionalization) has been associated with an important ecological transition: the colonisation of oceans by teleost fish.
