Grand Canyon Carboniferous tracks: odd or misinterpreted?

The authors appear to have settled on just one strange interpretation for the trackmaker of the odd Grand Canyon Carboniferous tracks. They report, "a distinctive, sideways-drifting, footprint pattern not previously documented in a tetrapod trackway." A competing trackmaker hypothesis posits a more typical, sprawling, sinuous lissamphibian or reptilomorph trackmaker followed by pursuing conspecific trackmakers made the 'checkerboard' in Trackway 1.

Details and competing graphics of sprawling taxa matched to the tracks appear online here: https://pterosaurheresies...

No competing interests declared.
